Today was a long, long day. If you get a full night’s sleep the day before heading out for the rally, I would assume you’re some sort of robot. I cannot overstate how fucking exciting it is for THE day to finally arrive where the whole thing becomes real. We flew out of Dallas to Heathrow direct which is a 9 hour flight. Of course we stopped by the Admirals Club first because, well, downing a bunch of free wine before hopping on a flight definitely helps you be a little more comfortable. Plus there’s a guacamole bar!
After the plane took off we were treated to a glass of champagne as a gift for buying the flight attendants chocolate. That’s a solid travel tip guys, they will come around a lot more often with drinks – which definitely happened. They were giving us handfuls of wine bottles at a time which made for an awesome flight until it started catching up with us. To say the least we did not feel good when we landed.
I was a little worried at first because it was immediately clear that I was sitting next to a chatty cathy (in this case chatty Chris.) He turned out to be a super cool dude and we stayed up most of the flight talking to him about random shit. Chris was his name. Chris is a teacher in Dallas and also a musician. Chris was also going drink for drink for us which is pretty impressive, especially since he did not look rough at all which was in stark contrast to us. He was telling us some awesome stories about meeting Robert Plant and being good friends with Don Henley.
We decided hopping in an uber out to the storage facility would be way easier than hopping on a bus, especially with as many bags as we had. The uber driver was not happy about how far away the destination was. The fare ended up being 80 bp and we threw him an extra 20, so I’m not sure what he was complaining about. So…the car.
I was super pumped about the guys seeing it in person. It instantly elicits laughs because the car is absolutely ridiculous looking. It had been sitting there for 4 months so it had a flat tire and a dead battery no problem, quick jump and some air and we’re on our way. Fast forward an hour after grabbing a bite at the only restaurant in town, we find out that the battery is dead again. Aaaand the driveway isn’t long enough for us to pop the clutch. Thankfully there was someone next door who gave us a jump and then we were on our way.
After a 2 hour drive down to Bognor Regis on the southern coast we got to the apartment we rented for the night and found out that the battery died again. We were so exhausted from the long day that we decided that was a later problem. After taking a nap for a few hours we headed into town and ate at a really tasty Thai food place that the owner of the apartment we were renting. Great choice, that food was on point. Then did our own little pub crawl, drinking Guinness and whiskey until the bars closed and then headed in for the night. Note: be specific when you order a whiskey coke because at least 2 places put scotch into it. Blech! London tomorrow!
Thanks again to www.tepwireless.com. We were able to post this on the train from Bognor Regis to London.
