I don’t think any of us woke up feeling great. After hanging out with the local Turks downstairs I talked to my lovely fiance for a while and remember the sun being up by the time we were done talking. Mitch was up talking to his girlfriend as well. 8 hour time difference sucks, and it’s gonna be 13 once we hit Mongolia.
On the agenda for today was just to hang out in Istanbul. A friend of a friend of Ryan’s had agreed to meet up with us and show us around for a while. We met Ömer at a hookah bar that’s 350 years old and chatted for a while. He is a super cool guy and his English is fantastic. The water pipe he ordered was apple flavored and I must say it was quite tasty as was the tea we were given, and I don’t even care for tea that much. After that we headed out and he gave us a nice private tour and taught us the history of some of the biggest landmarks in the city. He then brought us to his uncle’s rug shop and taught us all about rugs. If you need any rugs by the way they ship to the US for free and there are a lot of very cool rugs there. It was a really fun day, thanks again Ömer! You were an awesome host.
The night was tame. We ate at a restaurant that Ömer recommended to us that had a terrace with an incredible view of the water. Then we headed back home, took naps and caught up on blogs. The next day we set out for Cappadocia which is famous for their hot air balloons that fly over valleys of caves. Of course this is posted a few days late so you know that didn’t happen…..
